The Sapphires
Feature Film
Half way through this movie, the director Wayne Blair and I were standing on hill shooting explosion plates, talking about our childhoods. We realised pretty quickly that we had common childhood friends, and had actually played together near an angry billygoat in the sweltering Queensland sun. It was a fantasic, surreal moment recalling our childhoods, watching massive explosions being let off half a mile away. I was production VFX Supervisor on this one, and it was nominated for a Australian Academy award in 2012.

What I do

A visual effects supervisor is basically a visual problem solver. I try and recruit ideas from a variety of sources—new, old, borrowed or transposed from other disciplines and industries; curiosity drives me. But ultimately, I am an creative image-maker first and foremost.

I closely collaborate with others and keep a holistic view of the process—delivering creatively, on time, on budget. I excel at logistically complicated projects and team building.
